AUTUMN BREAK ACTIVITIES

During the autumn break (15-23 October) you get an extra day of Rembrandt: the museum is also open on Monday. We also have some special activities for young and old. You can join our daily, free paint demonstrations in Rembrandt’s studio, where you’ll learn more about the pigments Rembrandt used, where they came from and how he went on to make his paint. We are also organizing etching workshops and have an exciting junior audio guide and discovery trail for children ready to go! View all our autumn activities on this page.

WORKSHOPS: ETCHING AT REMBRANDT’S HOME

In our exhibition Rembrandt Revival you will discover which famous artists were inspired by Rembrandt and started making etchings themselves. Follow in the footsteps of Manet, Morisot, Whistler, Cassatt and Rembrandt himself during our workshops ‘Etching at Rembrandt’s Home’. You’ll make your own version of an etching from the exhibition by experimenting with the drypoint technique, various colors and different types of paper. You’ll make your own print on the large etching press, which you can take home afterwards. The workshops ‘Etching at Rembrandt’s Home’ are suitable for adults and children from 6 years old.

Two participating artists – Aline Thomassen and Alix Marie – have created exclusive editions of their work, which are now for sale in our museum shop and at We Like Art! Aline Thomassen (1964) made a penetrating female portrait in an edition with additions in watercolour; each work is therefore unique. Thomassen has been building an oeuvre of expressive watercolours and drawings, mostly by women, for years. Alix Marie (1989) is a French artist who explores the similarities between skin and photographs; both are characterized by a delicate surface and both are prone to misinterpretation. Her artwork Bruise was part of the exhibition RAW; Marie has made a smaller edition of this artwork.
